The car has its original paper sleeve protecting it. These cars were made with real heavy metal with a lot of detail. This is a quality made car and the shine that comes off that black #3 glistens. Dale switched over from his household known Wrangler blue and yellow colors after three championships and nine racing years of quality sponsorship to the new black "intimidating" GM Goodwrench paint scheme. Several names were given to Dale and the car at the start of Daytona Speedweeks in 1988 such as "the Man in Black", the Intimidator, and even Darth Vader. Dale won in his first race in the new black paint scheme when he held off the Alabama Gang of Bobby and Davey Allison in the 1988 Busch Clash at Daytona to kickoff the season and Daytona Speedweeks. Dale would go on to win three races in 1988 after a disappointing start due to the tire wars between Hoosier and Goodyear.

He would win at Atlanta, Martinsville, and held off eventual series champion Bill Elliott at the Bristol Night race that year. Dale would finish third in the final standings that year to Elliott and Rusty Wallace.
